An investigation begins after a teenage girl, Anna, goes missing. Everyone is convinced the two men on the train are the culprits. Throughout the book we hear the thoughts and feelings of those involved with the disappearance of Anna.

The story begins with the witness on the train, Ella, recounting the events of the two men approaching Anna and her friend, Sarah, on the train. Ella feels wrapped with guilt because she did not stop the two men, who had just been released from prison, from talking to the two teenagers. Throughout the book, Ella receives recurring letters from someone who is ‘watching’ her. Ella's guilt intensifies by this and she hires a private investigator to help her discover what really happened to Anna that night.

As the one who was last with Anna, Sarah is also questioned by the police. Sarah fails to tell the police about the argument she had with Anna; in the club she was last seen at.

Anna’s father’s whereabouts the night his daughter disappeared is questioned by the police, as they discover he was lying about his location that night.

The private investigator feels an urge to find out what happened to Anna that night as he undergoes investigations of his own.

Upon the anniversary since Anna went missing, the anniversary appeal brings new evidence to the surface. The indoctrination that the men on the train are to blame is followed as the police find Karl (one of the men) acting suspicious in Spain.

Ella, along with the private investigator, visit Anna’s mother where they discover something which had not before been discovered.

But who will pay the price for this? And will they unveil the truth behind what happened to Anna that night?

This crime and mystery book is a gripping thriller. The tension is heightened as you experience the investigation with the police detectives.
