CUE: A team from Kent University are currently training for a marathon to raise money for Marie Curie. Fundraising has been challenging due to the lockdown which has been in place for most of this year. Lauren Croud reports on this and the National Day of Reflection on 23rd March.

VO: Why did you decide to take on this challenge?
IV: Having experienced the effects that illness has had on my family and friends this challenge and its cause has spoke to me in particular…
VO: The team have recently completed a fundraiser where they ran 100K over the course of 10 days.
IV: This is a challenge we set amongst ourselves as a fundraising group to ease our way into fundraising whilst also getting more active for the marathon
VO: The team raised over £1,000 collectively from this challenge through the generosity of donations from family and friends

VO: This year fundraising has been slightly more challenging for charities due to the pandemic
The Marie Curie community fundraiser from Kent spoke about how fundraising changed during lockdown
IV: Instead of running the London marathon distance of 26 miles they did different things from walking up and down 26 stairs and doing a 26-mile marathon in their back- garden for example.
Our nurses were needed more than before because we needed them so patients could receive care in their homes.

VO: As a charity which provides end-of-life care, Marie Curie decided to set the 23rd March as a National Day of Reflection to remember all of those who have lost their lives during the pandemic.
IV: With over 125,000 people losing their lives, this time because of covid-19, they were not able to say goodbye to people in local hospitals, hospices, and care homes.
